Races — Ennis Bluebonnet Run

The Ennis Bluebonnet Run is held each spring during the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival — in the town the Texas Legislature named the Official Bluebonnet City of Texas. Four in-person events and three virtual ones share a start/finish line, and every entry funds CROME scholarships for Ellis County students.

10K Competitive

The long race: a double-loop course through the heart of downtown Ennis that heads out past Lake Clark Park and the dam, crosses Kachina Prairie, and turns around by the Ennis Municipal Airport before running back to the finish. It’s the distance for runners who want a real test with scenery to match — open prairie, lake views, and streets lined for the festival. The 2026 winning times were 39:57 (men) and42:25 (women).

5K Competitive

The classic distance, and the right pick for most runners: one scenic loop through Ennis on the same start/finish as the 10K. Chip timed with awards by five-year age division, from ages 10–14 up. In 2026 the tape was broken at 19:28 (men) and 24:07(women) — see the full podiums on the results page.

5K Fun Run & Walk

• Most stroller-friendly option

Run, jog, or walk at your own pace — no chip, no clock, no pressure. This is the event for families and first-timers who want the bluebonnet experience without racing it. Note the course mixes pavement with off-pavement stretches and a few inclines, so the Fun Run is the most stroller-friendly choice, and pets are not allowed on the course.

Kids 5K — Ages 13 & Under

A race built for young runners: safe, exciting, and finished with a medal for every kid who crosses the line. The fastest kids are quick — the 2026 boys’ winner ran24:41 — but the point is falling in love with running.

Virtual 5K, 10K & Kids Races

Can’t make it to Ennis? The virtual events let you run your distance anywhere in the days following race day and submit your time online. Virtual registrants receive race swag by mail.

Awards

Overall top-three awards for men and women in the 5K and 10K, plus first through third in every five-year age division, and boys’ and girls’ podiums for the Kids 5K. The awards ceremony happens on-site after the races — stick around, because the Bluebonnet Trails Festival is going on all around you.
